Take one fresh KORG Volca Bass Analogue Bass Machine.

step two

Flip it over and open the battery cover. Remove the battery and the seven screws as shown in the photo.

step three

USBtribe USB connected Monotribe MIDI interface installation step three

Turn it back the right way up and carefully lift the front panel up, forwards and left. It should move about 40mm forward and 40mm left. Be gentle so as not to strain the wires. You may prefer to unhook the brown and orange speaker wires from their restraint. We need to get access to the back wall of the case, close to the MIDI IN connector.

step four

Measure 10 - 15mm from the drill tip and wrap some tape around the drill. Make it reasonably thick as this will act as a stop, preventing the drill from accidentally going too far into the case and damaging something.

step five

Print, cut out and fold the drilling template, as indicated.

step six

USBtribe USB connected Monotribe MIDI interface installation step eight

Attach the drilling template to the Volca Bass with tape. Position the Volca Bass on the corner of the bench and clamp it down. Carefully drill a 6mm diameter hole for the MIDI cable to exit through.
WARNING! Do NOT attempt this unless you have firmly clamped the unit down and are confident to proceed. You may damage your synth if you do not take care during this step.

step seven

USBtribe USB connected Monotribe MIDI interface installation step nine

Take the MIDI socket cable that came with your MIDIBass and pull the protective ends off the wire.

step eight

USBtribe USB connected Monotribe MIDI interface installation step ten

Fold the exposed wire hard back, so that it lies against the plastic insulation, and gently twist it around the insulation.

step nine

USBtribe USB connected Monotribe MIDI interface installation step ten

Remove the two screws, marked red, in the picture.

step ten

USBtribe USB connected Monotribe MIDI interface installation step ten

Position the MIDIbass so that it's screw holes line up with the screws you just removed and screw it in place. Feed the MIDI socket cable, from the outside, through the hole you drilled earlier. Slide it in as far as it will go.

step eleven

Take the screen wire and insert it into the first round hole. Now insert the included screwdriver into the rectangular hole, above the round one, to open the terminal and allow the wire to enter. Remove the screwdriver and the wire will be firmly held by the terminal.

step twelve

Repeat for the orange and the brown wires. The colours are marked on the MIDIbass board.

step thirteen

USBtribe USB connected Monotribe MIDI interface installation step ten

Adjust the MIDI socket cable so that it sits comfortably in the case once the Volca Bass is closed up. Now use the cable tie provided as a cable restraint.

step fourteen

Replace the front panel, all the screws, the battery and battery cover. Your Volca Bass is now equipped with MIDI Out capability!
